Finding a rare transitional Volkswagen T2AB in fully restored condition, finished in its original factory color and retaining matching numbers, is becoming increasingly difficult—especially when you’re searching for a truly high-quality example. Fortunately, this particular T2AB is exactly that.

Finished in the original and highly desirable L60D Elm Green, this bus represents the unique transition between the T2a and T2b models, produced only from August 1971 until July 1972. With a total production of just 283,749 units and an estimated survival rate significantly lower (between 5,500 and 14,000 units), this is a rare opportunity to acquire a highly collectible Volkswagen.

This example was subject to a full “bolt-off” restoration in 2016, carried out by a specialized company. During this process, exceptional attention was paid to originality and detail. Wherever possible, original bolts were reused, factory spot welds were preserved, and only correct and original parts were used. The restoration is extensively documented, and all records are available for inspection.

Since completion of the restoration, the bus has covered only approximately 1,500 kilometers over the past 10 years. It has been part of a private collection, always stored indoors in a dry and heated environment. Prior to sale, the vehicle has been fully checked technically, received a major service, and several components have been preventively replaced to ensure reliable and enjoyable driving for years to come.

We are confident this is a matching-numbers example, further enhancing its desirability and investment potential. In addition to being a valuable collector’s item, this T2AB is also perfectly suited for promotional purposes, rental, or as a standout business eye-catcher.
As expected with a classic vehicle, minor signs of age and character may be present, contributing to its authenticity. Mechanically, the bus is in excellent condition and ready for immediate use. The odometer reading may increase slightly as the vehicle will be driven occasionally to maintain optimal performance.

The vehicle is currently registered in the Netherlands and is ready for the road. Due to its age, it qualifies for road tax exemption.
